Key ideas
- Use one developing or emerging country, such as India. Learn its location, trade, investment, geopolitics and population change with figures.
- A TNC is a company that operates in several countries. It can raise development by creating jobs and wages, paying tax and bringing skills. It is profit-driven, not a charity.
- Possible disadvantages of a TNC are that profits are sent to the home country and jobs may move away if it relocates.
- Core and periphery regions differ. Jobs, investment and services cluster in the core. The periphery has poor soils, isolation and lower skills.
- A geopolitical relationship is a specific link between countries, such as a territorial dispute. Rapid development has benefits and costs.
