How the practice questions are marked
The free questions on these pages are marked straight away, by a program that checks your answer against the mark scheme. Here is what that means.
What happens when you press Check
- Your answer goes to SubjectHub. The page never held the answers, so there was nothing to look up in your browser.
- It is checked against the mark scheme for that question and you get your marks straight back.
- You see the right answer and the reason, so you learn from the ones you miss. You can have another go.
The kinds of question you will see
- Multiple choice and choose-more-than-one: full marks for the right choice or choices.
- True or false: a mark for each statement you judge correctly.
- Fill the gaps: a mark for each gap. Capitals and extra spaces do not matter; spelling does.
- Matching and sorting: a share of the marks for each pair or item in the right place.
- Putting in order: marked on how many items are in the right place.
Longer written answers are not part of the free questions. In SubjectHub homework they are marked against the mark scheme, and your teacher can look at the marks and change them.
Questions people ask
Who marks the free questions?
A computer program checks your answer against the mark scheme the moment you press Check. It does not guess and it does not use AI, so the same answer always gets the same mark.
How do part marks work?
Questions with several parts, such as matching, sorting and fill-in-the-gaps, give a share of the marks for each part you get right. Choose-two questions and ordering questions can be all-or-nothing, as they are in the exam.
Do spelling and capital letters matter in fill-in-the-gap answers?
Capital letters and extra spaces do not matter. Spelling does: the word has to match one of the answers the mark scheme accepts.
Are my answers saved?
No. Nothing you type on these pages is stored or linked to you. Your marks stay on the page until you close it.
Are these the real GCSE (9-1) Geography B: Geography for Enquiring Minds (J384) exam questions?
No. They are exam-style questions written for SubjectHub to match what the specification asks for. They use the same command words as the exam.
