Canvas gradebook export for homework completion
Steve Benton, computing teacher and founder of SubjectHub
A school asked for something specific. They wanted each class's homework completion, unit by unit, in their Canvas gradebook, where parents can see it. Their teachers were not going to type it in, and they were right. So I built a Canvas gradebook export.
How the Canvas gradebook export works
A teacher opens a class's Results tab, chooses Canvas gradebook, and downloads a CSV for their own classes. A school admin can download every class from the school page. Canvas imports the file and matches pupils by their school email.

The part that took longest
Part-way through a course, the obvious sum is wrong. Say a unit has eight homeworks and only two have been set so far. A pupil who did both would show 25%.
So a piece of work only counts once its due date has passed, or once a quarter of the class has started it. Until then the unit is left blank rather than showing 0%.
The file is a CSV in the format Canvas imports, so it also opens in any spreadsheet if you want to check it first.
The export comes with every school package, and the pricing page has the details. The how it works page shows the results screens the export is built from.
