End of term quiz game for the classroom: Prize Ladder
Steve Benton, computing teacher and founder of SubjectHub
The last lesson before a holiday is not the time for a new topic. It is not the time for a film either. I wanted an end of term quiz game for the classroom that still used the questions from the course.
An end of term quiz game for the whole classroom
Most of our games reward the pupil who answers fastest and most accurately. That is right for most lessons. On the last day I wanted everyone in with a chance, so Prize Ladder has luck built in on purpose.
How it plays
A right answer shows you three briefcases. One lifts you a rung, one two rungs, one three, and you do not know which is which. A wrong answer drops you back to your last safe rung, at £1,000 or £32,000. There are fifteen rungs from £100 to £1 million. Reach the top and you bank a million and start climbing again.
When we tested it, the most accurate pupil finished in the top five about three times in four. For our other games we aim for more than nine times in ten. So the pupil who has struggled all term can still win. That is the point.
Prize Ladder arrived the same day as Vault Heist, Balloon Rally and Avalanche. If you would rather every right answer counted the same, I would pick Avalanche. Each right answer is a handhold, and the first to the summit wins. Every mode is on the game modes page.
