A Halloween quiz game for the classroom: Haunted House

Steve Benton, computing teacher and founder of SubjectHub

Halloween falls in half term this year for a lot of schools, so the week before is when classes want something seasonal. A Halloween quiz game for the classroom is easy to find. One that asks about your own topic is harder.

Haunted House: a Halloween quiz game for the classroom

Haunted House is one of four new live games. A right answer lights up three doors and the pupil taps one. Behind it is a handful of sweets, the Giant Jar (three times as many), or Pip the ghost, who borrows a few sweets until your next right answer. Climb to the Attic and the sweets get bigger. At midnight they double.

The new games on the class board, recorded with test pupils.

The other three

Splat Wall is for two teams. Every answer loads a paint ball: a big one for a right answer, a small drip for a wrong one. Pupils pull back a slingshot and fling it at a shared wall. Three right in a row makes a mega ball. The team covering most of the wall wins.

Egg Hatchery is gentler and suits a starter. Each right answer puts three eggs in your nest. Tap one and a creature hatches, and the rare ones score more.

In Floor Is Lava, pupils run to the right answer before the floor crumbles.

All four use the same questions as every other game, so the topic stays yours. None of them is an Action game, so free teachers can run them on GCSE Computer Science and KS3 Computing. The rest are on the game modes page.
