A muddled plan of what a radio station's new app should do. Regroup, link and annotate it for the app developer.

The scenario

Brightside FM: podcast and app launch

Brightside FM is a community radio station in the seaside town of Saltmere, run by volunteers aged 14 to 21 for young listeners. It broadcasts on FM and streams online. The station is launching 'Turn It Up', a weekly podcast in which young people discuss local issues, and a free app where listeners can stream the station live, play podcast episodes and send song requests.

The task

Brightside FM has started a digital mind map of what the new app should do. The app developer will use it to plan the screens, but the map is muddled: one idea sits under the wrong branch, one branch is empty, one idea is a whole sentence, one branch has nothing to do with the app and three labels are not connected.

Improve the effectiveness of the mind map for use by the app developer. Marks will be awarded for: relevant components and conventions used (central node, branches, sub-nodes and the links between them); logical grouping of related ideas; annotations that explain how the improvements help the app developer in their role.

[9 marks]

What it is marked on

  • A named central node with main branches for each part of the brief
  • Branches developed with sub-ideas, and related ideas grouped together
  • Ideas that suit this client and brief

The marks fall in OCR's three levels. How R093 is marked explains them.

Questions

Is this the real exam?

No. It is a practice question in the style of OCR's R093 paper: a client scenario, a document for a named user, and an extended answer marked by three levels. SubjectHub wrote it from the specification and the published mark schemes; the real papers are set by OCR.

How is it marked?

Straight away and for free, code counts the structure: a named central node, the main branches against what the task asks for, branches developed with sub-ideas, and your notes. With a free account you also get the full mark: each idea and note is judged against the brief and OCR's three levels, and you get a mark, the level, feedback and one next step.

Do I need an account?

No, not to try it: answer it here and get the free check. For the full mark and examiner-style feedback, create a free account. Sign-up opens in a new tab, so your answer stays on this page, and it is kept in this browser if you come back later. Signed-in users get 10 full marks a day.
